3 critical considerations for generative AI on campus - eCampus News
My latest Generative AI statement for the Syllabus:
Generative Artificial intelligence (GenAI) is here to stay. It’s important that you know how to responsibly operate it. Those who don't know how to use GenAI wisely may lose job spots to those who do. Thus, you may use LLMs (large language models) including ChatGPT, Bing AI, Bard, Claude, Quillbot, Grammarly, etc., as collaborative tools to help you generate and develop ideas, as well as to proofread and give feedback on usage and tone, but not as a sole source for written content creation. Use these GenAI tools as digital assistants but never let them take over the process and subsume your personality. We desire to have you as the human writer shine through, particularly in interactive online conversations.
Actively engage with the AI, verify the information, make sure at least 51% is human, and cite your sources properly (see https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/how-to-cite-chatgpt for examples). Keep a record of your conversations with the AI in case you need them later. Students with dyslexia or other situations that affect their reading or writing are encouraged to use GenAI tools as an accommodation. Please contact your professor if you would like to discuss your specific needs. Consider touching base with our Accommodations Resource Center (ARC) on campus, as well. Part III contains their contact information.
